Storytelling: Baseball is Our Platform, Not Our Purpose

Summary of presentation by Jamie Toole, Springfield Lucky Horseshoes, Friday, January 26.

Jamie Toole, Chief Storyteller for the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes, follows the Golden Rule in both life and business: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

And in leading the brand, he and wife Melissa Gaynor, co-owners of the team, had one goal: to bring a new era of entertainment to the community.

Because they truly believe that the team does not belong to them, it belongs to Springfield, their greatest storytelling success comes through their passion for the community.

Building the Brand

In building the 'Shoes brand, the team had a few guiding objectives:

  • What is Springfield's thing? The Horseshoe!

  • Let's put in maximum effort

  • Have a plan and follow it

  • Stay connected to the community

  • "This is our community. We will work to earn their support." mentality

Community, Community, Community

Though Shoes Baseball was in "50 states in 50 days," their focus is on building local connections and truly connecting with the community.

The Springfield Lucky Horseshoes support many local causes and charities, and feel it's important to give back and share their many blessings. By forming alliances with local businesses such as Ace Sign Company, Primo Designs, Buzz Bomb Brewing Co., Knob Hill Landscaping, Turasky Meats, Green Family Stores and others, they are strengthening ties within the community, and supporting local companies and local workers while helping to spread the story of the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes.

Entertainment vs. Baseball

Toole shared that baseball is their platform but not their purpose. The goals for each 'Shoes event are to:

  • Create smiles

  • Create laughter

  • Create memories

  • Bring people together

Most importantly, Toole shared these Key Takeaways for Success:

  • Time is our most valuable commodity

  • Practice the Golden Rule

  • Employ Endusiasm

  • Say your prayers, life grateful

  • Be a blessing to others

  • "Go confidently in your in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you've imagined." - Henry David Thoreau

  • LOVE BIG!
