We're excited to welcome Michelle Ownbey, publisher of Illinois Times  and Springfield Business Journal, as our June speaker! Join us for an  insightful presentation on the current state of  journalism, focusing on the challenges and  opportunities faced by reporters in smaller markets. Hear a firsthand  account of the evolving landscape of journalism, the unique hurdles  of working in local media and the value of community-centered  storytelling in today's digital age.

Michelle Ownbey has lived in Springfield since shortly after graduating  from Illinois College. She worked for the Jacksonville Journal-Courier and then the original owners of Springfield Business Journal before  taking a seven-year detour into commercial real estate. She returned to  the newspaper world in 2014 when Fletcher Farrar purchased Springfield Business Journal and now serves as the publisher for both SBJ and Illinois Times

Besides local journalism, her other passion is old  houses and historic neighborhoods. She and her husband, Cody, live in an  old house in Enos Park, the oldest neighborhood in Springfield, and  have a five year old son who is fond of telling people that he’s “almost  six.”
